This easy crochet pumpkin cupcake amigurumi pattern is great for beginners and works up quickly. This is a perfect addition to your home decor or Fall activities! I have both of these pumpkin cupcakes displayed on a dresser.
These crochet pumpkin cupcakes, are very addictive to make. Once you make one, more will follow. These are perfect for Thanksgiving or as a fun gift for a friend or loved one.
Materials Needed
- Worsted Weight Yarn, any brand (Colors: Orange, Beige, Brown, Green, Black, Pink)
- Hook size F/5 3.75 mm hook (for larger cupcake, use a larger hook)
- Tapestry needle
- Poly-Fill (or scrap yarn for stuffing)
- Embroidery scissors
- Safety eyes (optional if you don’t embroider)
Abbreviations
- Slip Stitch (SL ST)
- Single Crochet (SC)
- Half Double Crochet (HDC)
- Chain (CH)
- Skip (SK) *skip one stitch*
- Back Loop Only (BLO) *stitches are worked only in the back loop*
- Front Loop Only (FLO) *stitches are worked in the front loop*
- Yarn Over (YO) *insert hook in indicated stitch and pull up a loop*
- Increase (INC) *crochet 2 stitches in the same stitch*
- Decrease (DEC) *insert hook in next stitch, pull up a loop, insert hook in the next stitch, pull up another loop, 3 loops on hook, pull through all 3 stitches*
- Magic Circle (MC) *Used to start crochet projects in the round*
- Fasten Off (FO) *At the end of your work you tighten and sew in ends*
Cupcake Pumpkin Pattern (Body, in beige)
R1: In MC, SC 6 (as an alternative to the MC, CH 2, SC 6, in second chain from hook) (6)
R2: INC in each stitch, x6 (12)
R3: SC 1 in next stitch, INC in next stitch, x6 (18)
R4: SC 1 in next two stitches, INC in next stitch, x6 (24)
R5: SC 1 in next three stitches, INC in next stitch, x6 (30)
R6: In BLO, SC in each stitch around (30)
R7- R12: SC in each stitch around, SL ST to first SC, (at end of R12) FO (30)
Frosting (In Orange)
R1: In MC, SC 6 (as an alternative to the MC, CH 2, SC 6, in second chain from hook) (6)
R2: INC in each stitch, x6 (12)
R3: SC 1 in next stitch, INC in next stitch, x6 (18)
R4: SC 1 in next two stitches, INC in next stitch, x6 (24)
R5: SC 1 in next three stitches, INC in next stitch, x6 (30)
R6: In FLO, SC in each stitch around (30)
R7: CH 1, * HDC in next stitch, SK one stitch, SL ST in next stitch* Repeat from * until end of round. You should end with a SL ST to first stitch, FO and leave a long tail for sewing
Stem (In Brown)
R1: In MC, SC 6 (as an alternative to the MC, CH 2, SC 6, in second chain from hook) (6)
R2 – R4: SC in each stitch around (SL ST at end of R4) FO, and leave a tail for sewing (6)
Leaf (In Green)
R1: CH 10, SC three in each stitch, this will form a swirl when finished. Leave the last 5 stitches undone and FO, leave a tail for sewing
Cheeks (In Pink)
R1: In MC, SC 6 (as an alternative to the MC, CH 2, SC 6, in second chain from hook) FO and leave tail for sewing (6)
Getting it together
Now that you have everything set and ready to go, we will now be putting our cupcake together.
Sew the stem and leaf to the top of your frosting
Start the face, embroider your first eye in R10, like a small V shape, each V shape eye should be at least 4 stitches apart. If you don’t embroider, you can also use safety eyes.
Embroider mouth at R8 one row below the eyes and the mouth peak should be at R6.
Sew on your cheeks under each V shaped eye
Stuff your cupcake, then begin to sew on the frosting. Remember the FLO from the frosting, that is where you start to sew from be sure you sew to the BLO of the cupcake body. Continue stuffing as you go, be sure to add a bit to the frosting, so it will pop up.
All done! Look how cute it came out!
