I recently did my third market and it was an indoor event. Quiet and yes, it was a bit slow, but it happens. I did have a chance to network with vendors, and I learned more about the experience. I managed to sell two small items but I can’t complain, it’s something. My only complaint is, I wasn’t able to make my market fee back, which happens, I imagine. I am still very new at the entire market experience. I have been invited to do more, and I will absolutely take on the offers. Eventually we all find our place. There are so many events coming up this month and Summer, and Fall. I look forward to them, and Fall happens to be my favorite season. To think we are almost halfway through the year again!
I will be making changes in how I conduct my business. I’ve had a few interesting people devalue what I do. I cannot make a custom item for just $20, especially if it takes 2 to 6 weeks. If you want an item for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day or any holiday, I need at least a 2-to-3-week notice, and for custom orders I do require a non-refundable deposit. This helps material costs and starting costs. I’ll be re organizing how I conduct things. I do enjoy making and creating items people will love but I also feel that understanding that as an artist we do everything by hand, takes time and attention to create.
