The Spring Fling Clutch is the perfect spring/summer accessory. It’s cute and you can fit a few personal items in it. It’s perfect for a day out. You can also line the inside of the bag. This is a beginner friendly pattern, which can be made in two sizes. One large and one small. Perfect as a mommy and me set!

Materials Needed:
Yarn: Any worsted weight in 3 to 4 colors (I used Red Heart Yarn)
Hook: H/8 (5 mm) or I/9 (5.5 mm)
Yarn needle: Metal works best
Embroidery scissors: Small, works best
Stitch Markers: Optional, but helps keep your place
Abbreviations
MC: Magic Circle
CH : Chain
ST(S): Stitch(s)
HDC: Half Double Crochet
SL ST: Slip Stich
HDC2TOG: Half Double Crochet Together (decrease stitch)
How to HDC (Half Double Crochet).
Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, pull up a loop. There should be 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops. That’s it!
How to HDC2TOG (Half Double Crochet 2 Together)
Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, pull up a loop. There should be 3 loops, yarn over again and insert hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop. There should now be 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over one more time and pull thorough all 5 loops. That’s it!
How to do a Picot stitch (edging for bag)
CH 4, SL ST in first CH (The first chain is exactly that, the first chain you made, as you started your CH 4)
Let’s begin our bag!
Body: (With color of choice) Large Size
CH 1 does NOT COUNT as a stitch!
R1: CH 39, HDC in second chain from hook and in all chains, CH1, turn (38)
R2- R29: HDC in each ST, CH1, turn (38)
You can choose to begin a new color at the end of row 28 or continue with the same color. I also suggest you add a stitch marker, as this will be where you fold your bag.
Top Of Bag (With new color, which is optional)
R30 – R34: HDC in each stitch, CH 1, turn (38)
R35: HDC2TOG, HDC in next 34 STS, HDC2TOG, CH 1, turn (36)
R36: HDC2TOG, HDC in next 32 STS, HDC2TOG, CH 1, turn (34)
R37: HDC2TOG, HDC in next 30 STS, HDC2TOG, CH 1, turn (32)
R38: HDC2TOG, HDC in next 28 STS, HDC2TOG, CH 1, turn (30)
R39: HDC2TOG, HDC in next 26 STS, HDC2TOG, CH 1, turn (28)
At this point you can now continue on to the edging row, to finish off your cute clutch bag! If you decide to make a smaller version of this bag, the pattern is below.
Body (With color of choice) Small Size
CH29, HDC second chain from hook and in all chains. CH1, turn (28)
R2-29: HDC in each ST, CH1, turn (28)
Top Of Bag (With color of choice)
R30 – R34: HDC in each stitch, CH 1, turn (28)
R35: HDC2TOG, HDC in next 34 STS, HDC2TOG, CH 1, turn (26)
R36: HDC2TOG, HDC in next 32 STS, HDC2TOG, CH 1, turn (24)
R37: HDC2TOG, HDC in next 30 STS, HDC2TOG, CH 1, turn (22)
R38: HDC2TOG, HDC in next 28 STS, HDC2TOG, CH 1, turn (20)
R39: HDC2TOG, HDC in next 26 STS, HDC2TOG, CH 1, turn (18)
Edging Row
R40: HDC2TOG, *CH 4, SL ST in first CH, HDC in next*, *Repeat* until you reach the last two STS, then HDC2TOG. Fasten off and sew in ends.
Spring Flowers
CH 5, SL ST to first CH, *(CH 2, DC 2, SL ST)* Repeat *, 4 more times
Gently pull string to tighten.
You can also do this using the Magic Circle (MC)
CH 2, DC 2 into ring, SL ST into ring (do this 4 more times) pull to tighten and sew in ends. Leave a tail for sewing on to bag.
Assembly
You will now fold your bag in half to R29. Carefully sew each side of the bag, or you can single crochet each side. Sew in ends on the wrong side, then flip it. Sew on your flowers to the flap, and that’s it! Look how awesome it came out!!
