Feliz Dia De Los Muertos! Happy Day Of The Dead!!

Traditions and Celebrations

In Mexican tradition this is a celebration dedicated to loved ones and friends that we have lost. On this day we honor their memory and remember them. We celebrate their life as we celebrate ourselves. In remembrance of the dead celebrations are often a big party with food, music, dance and masquerading as death and dressing up as La Catrina, a tall female skeleton commonly depicted wearing a fancy gown and a lavish hat flaring over her head. Some people like to remember the dead by setting up an alter. I have an alter set up with photos of lost loved ones and I honor them everyday. I often have photos of loved ones who are still with us and as a Spiritualist, I feel as if the spirits of my loved ones protect those of us who are still here.

It may seem a bit silly to some but to me, it’s my way of honoring and respecting my ancestors. The dead may not be able to speak to us in a physical sense, but in a spiritual sense, they are always with us. They always give us signs and they are always watching over us. In honor of this day I found a pattern on Yarnspirations to create a sugar skull. I created two. They are fun and easy to create. They also make for fun and whimsical decor for your home. If you have an alter to honor loved ones, these would look really cool on each side.  Do you celebrate, Dia De Los Muertos? What traditions do you have in your cultures? I’d love to know.

Stay beautiful, creative and always be kind to each other because time is not promised and we need more love in this crazy, beautiful, chaotic world we live in.
