Need a fun and quick DIY crochet project for Halloween? How about a fun and easy DIY ghost beanie? This pattern is beginner friendly and so much fun to make. A fun and cute accessory that kids and kids at heart will love wearing this Halloween season.

This would be the perfect Halloween accessory if you don’t want to dress up, but still want to celebrate. This beanie can be made in various sizes and make a cute gift for Halloween.

Materials Needed
Worsted Weight Yarn (Red Heart Yarn in Pumpkin, Black,
White )
Size 5.5 mm hook (I/9) This was the hook used for this pattern.
(Fits medium to large)
H/8 5.0 mm hook (Fits small to medium)
G/6 4.0 mm hook (Fits small)
Yarn needle
Small set of scissors
Hot glue (only if you hate sewing on items)

Abbreviations
HDC : Half Double Crochet
MC : Magic Circle
CH : Chain
SL ST : Slip Stitch
INC : Increase (2 stitches in one stitch)
* REP: Repeat until the end of the round

Special Stitches
FPHDC : Front Post Half Double Crochet
BPHDC : Back Post Half Double Crochet
FLO : Front Loop Only
BLO: Back Loop Only
TLO: Third Loop Only

 

Begin Pattern (Body)

R1: In MC, CH 1 and HDC 8, SL ST to first HDC, CH 1 (8)

R2: HDC INC in each stitch, SL ST to first HDC, CH 1 (16)

R3: HDC INC in first stitch, HDC in next, * REP, SL ST to first HDC, CH 1 (24)

R4: HDC INC in first stitch, HDC in next 2 stitches, *REPSL ST to first HDC, CH 1 (32)

R5: *HDC INC in the first stitch, HDC in next 3 stitches*, *
REP
, SL ST to first HDC, CH 1 (40)

R6: HDC INC in the first stitch, HDC in next 4 stitches, *
REP
, SL ST to first HDC, CH 1 (48)

R7: HDC INC in the first stitch, HDC in next 5 stitches,
*REP, SL ST to first HDC, CH 1 (56)

R8: *HDC INC in the first stitch, HDC in next 6 stitches*,

R9 – R20: HDC in each stitch, SL ST to first HDC, CH 1 (64)

 

Let’s Create The Ruffles

R21: HDC x 4 in FLO, Skip 1 stitch, and SL ST in next
*REP, SL ST to first HDC, CH 1 ( You should have 20, shell
petals, with an open space at the beginning of the round, this
counts as the back of your hat.)

R22: HDC in TLO around, and, SL ST to first HDC
1 (64) (The TLO (third loop only) is the loop that is underneath the back loop.)

R23: FPHDC in first post and BPHDC in next, ending in
BPHDC, SL ST to first FPHDC stitch. Fasten off and sew in
ends.

Ghost Eyes, Working In A Round (make 2, in black)

R1: In MC, SC 6 (6)

R2: INC in each stitch (12)

R3: INC in first stitch, 1 SC in next x6 (18)


Ghost Mouth, Working In A Round (in black)

R1: In MC, SC 6 (6)

R2: INC in each stitch (12)

R3: INC in first stitch, 1 SC in next x6 (18)

R4: INC in first stitch, 1 SC in next two stitches x6 (24)

Assemble Your Ghost Beanie!
Sew in all ends
● Sew on your eyes each about 10 stitches apart. (if you hate
to sew, you can also use hot glue instead)
● Sew on your mouth 1 row below, between the eyes. (again,
you can use hot glue instead)
● Sew on or hot glue on your bow to the top of the beanie, at
least one row below the first row.
● Your ghost beanie is now ready to wear! Enjoy!
